13.4.1938

Dear Mr. Barclay,

I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 9th inst. [2] I have spoken to Dr. [Rupert] Ritter and he informs me that he will write to you within the next few days and will state the results of his enquiries regarding road-transport to and from Steg and estimates for food-supplies.

Regarding the fears of the boys' parents as to war and other international complications I beg to assure that there is in my opinion no such danger. The Principality of Liechtenstein in my opinion will remain independent. There is no Nazi party amongst the Liechtensteiners to propagate the idea of the Great German Reich and there exist no Liechtensteiners who are feeling suppressed and who wish [Adolf] Hitler to be their liberator. It is further to be considered that Liechtenstein offers no assets at all, such as did Austria and the acquisition of our Country would therefore be of no advantage for Germany.

I am therefore fully convinced that you and the boys will be able to spend a happy time in Liechtenstein and your stay in Liechtenstein needs not cause any fear for the parents of the boys.

With very best wishes.

Yours sincerely,
